Sand Boarding

Sand boarding is a sport that a lot of people have grown to love. It is one of those sports that you never think you will try, but the first time you give it a go you find yourself hooked forever. This is because sand boarding is one of the most exhilarating sports that you can take part in. Even though this sport is not commonly taken part in, for those who have come to participate, they have found something that they can have a lot of fun doing.

If you are not familiar with sand boarding you are not alone; but overall, it is pretty easy to understand. Sand boarding is very similar to snow boarding, except for the fact that you will be sliding on sand instead of snow. Just like snow boarding, you can only go sand boarding in select places around the world. Obviously, if there is no sand you will not be able to take part in this activity.

One thing about sand boarding that people do not like is the sand itself. Even though this sport can be a great time when you are on your board, if you happen to fall it can be less than exciting. Sand is abrasive, and is much less unfriendly to you and your board. But with this being said, there are precautions you can take in order to ensure that your trip down the dunes is a good experience.

If you are considering taking up sand boarding you have to be in shape; there is no two ways about it. If you go snow boarding you will take your board to the bottom of the hill, and then simply get on the lift to head back to the top. But with sand boarding, there are no lifts. The only way to get back to the top is by walking; and this can be very taxing in hot sand. It is impossible for anybody to put a lift in place due to ever changing sand dunes. Every time the wind blows the dunes change; this would make lifts pretty much useless most of the time.

The sand boards themselves are very similar to the ones that are used in snow boarding. The size and shape are the same, but the big difference comes on the bottom of the board. Since sand is more abrasive then snow, special modifications have to be made. The bottom of sand boards are covered with more durable materials such as Formica or ABS plastic. You can also wax the bottom of your board periodically in order to make it more slippery, and to make it last longer.

Overall, sand boarding is an activity that can be a lot of fun. Just make sure that you are in shape before you get started.
